For the first time in history, the prestigious International Grand Prix of Venice, the Plate of the Golden Lion, will go to a Group of Scientific Experts. On July 2nd, Italian Senator Mario Baccini will award EGOI (The Experts Group on Inositols in Basic and Clinical Research), represented by Professor Fabio Facchinetti, Drs Simona Dinicola, and Valentina Gattaino, for their significant contribution to the growth of scientific culture in 2020-2021.

Rome, June 30th, 2021 – The Nobel Prize for physiology and medicine, Albert Szent – Gyorgyi argued that “research is seeing what everyone else has seen and thinking what no one else has thought.”
And there is nothing else rather than a deep passion for scientific research that has led these Experts from all over the world to come together and cooperate to promote a scientific debate on inositol. The aim of their effort is straightforward: deepen what is known and has been discovered so far about the clinical use of this natural substance in several therapeutic areas, from gynecology to endocrinology, oncology, and neurology.
Founded by the Italian Professors Vittorio Unfer and Fabio Facchinetti, today EGOI counts
40 members among researchers and opinion leaders from 14 countries. Proof of their expertise is the number of scientific publications, and research projects relating to the supplementation of Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol to manage and prevent several conditions.
On March 1st, 2021, EGOI has joined the Alliance for Health Promotion (A4HP), a non-governmental organization (NGO) affiliated with the World Health Organization (WHO), all sharing the same vision to promote and achieve better living and health standards for people worldwide.
Considering the challenges we are all facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Plate of the Golden Lion of Venice looks even more meaningful. Indeed, not only EGOI is the first group of scientists to receive an award that historically is intended to celebrate the individual merits of entrepreneurs, but also because it recognizes the importance of cultural rather than economic growth.
One year after its foundation, EGOI’s achievements show how cooperation is key to progress, and how – even in the most difficult times – we should keep on promoting and investing in scientific research.
